Hey everybody, we're here today to talk about the rock.

It's the 1996 Michael Bay directed action film starring Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery.

What did you think of the rock? The Rock is a really great 90s era action film. It's

actually one of, I mean, it has, it doesn't actually cover a lot of new ground it just takes familiar action

tropes and situations and stitches them together with just enough heart and

believability to keep you engaged and they also

have one of the greater like villain setups like this guy General Hummel is up there with like Marvel's Magneto as like yeah

this guy's got a point. Mm-hmm like and there's a lot of pathos like he's a

Julius Caesar type that's on that's eventually you know undone by by

his own his own men like he's he's defeated not not by the good guys but

by his by his the greed and avarice and and callousness of his own side so

it's actually doesn't it it's better than it has any right to be because the

setup but that's also like it's a brilliant

conceit it's a triumph of like wedding a script for particular point

geographic points and historical context, I think it's great.

And Nick Cage is a great every man

that lets you just kind of like insert yourself

into this stereotypical masculine power fantasy.
