On June 13, 1984, a serial killer took his final victim in a case that saw all of his crimes

16-year-old Paula Pereira was thought of fondly by the members of her tight-knit group of

friends living in Orange County, New York. Liked by almost anyone who ever came into contact with the teen,

Paula was a member of her church's youth group, performed well in school,

and reportedly, quote, never complained about the unhappy life

she lived behind the doors of her family home.

However, by the year 1981, things had gotten far too

heavy for the sweet young girl, and she made an attempt on her life by overdosing on pills.

Though unsuccessful, word of what she attempted spread throughout the school, and while on the bus,

children started mockingly calling her Paula Tylenol. She tried not to let the teasing get to her, but on a few

occasions she chose to hitchhike to class rather than brave the nastiness taking place on the bus.

The her boyfriend at the time begged her not to do it, knowing the inherent dangers of hitchhiking.

She told him that, quote, only nice people pick me up and ignored his pleas.
