The squeeze on household income is going to be the big story of 2022, particularly the first half.

For lots of households, it's going to feel much worse this year in terms of the squeeze on their incomes than it did during the heat of the pandemic.

Good morning. The cost of goods and services we buy is rising at its fastest rate for 30 years.

The December figure for inflation showed that prices have gone up by 5.4% compared to the year before.

This shift in the cost of living is acknowledged by the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

I understand how difficult it is for people.

I understand the pressures that people are facing on household finances.

And to explain that pressure, the UK government also says this.
