Hello and Namaste. I'm Divina Gupta and today on Business Daily, we are heading to India.

It's election season here. Nearly one billion people are heading to the ballot boxes. That's three times the population of the U.S.

It's a huge operation over weeks and weeks. There are over one million polling booths set up

around the country. Election officials travel deep into forests in the east, cross desert

in the west and even trek Himalayas in the north to set up the world's

highest bowling station at over 15,000 feet.

All this just to give everyone a chance to vote, making it the biggest ever election in the

world.

And one crucial demographic of voters is that of Nari Shakti or women

power. For the first time, over 470 million women are eligible to vote.

That's nearly half of the total electors.

And they are turning out in large numbers to make their presence felt.

But can their vote make a difference to their lives?

And what do they want in this election?

To find that out, I start in the capital city, Delhi,

the political seat of India, home to the country's parliament.

I spent my childhood here, along with millions of girls,

jostling in the heat and the crowd and a male-dominated society.

Traditionally, male voters were in the majority, but now women are catching up.

For the first time in the last election, they edged past male voters by a small margin.

Why is this significant?

And can this shift also lead to a more equal society and influence policy decisions?
