V Wade.

Good evening, and a landmark ruling the Supreme Court today legalized abortions.

In two related cases and eight separate opinions, the nine justices made abortion largely

a private matter and ordered the states to make no laws forbidding it, except possibly

during the final months.

This is the first episode of a two-part series in which the hosts examine the legal right

to have an abortion, how it came to be, how it rallied the conservative movement, and

how it has been gutted by the courts.
