The late spring air hung heavy and humid over the spires of brooch.

A slight hint of breeze carried with it a tinge of salt from the open North Sea 8 miles

distance.

The bird's chirped and cod, melding with the low hum of voices carried upward from the

narrow streets.

But it was strangely quiet.

Brooch was a bustling city, a center of banking and commerce that drew visitors from all

the great commercial centers of Europe.

Voices normally called out prices and exchange rates in English, low German, high German,

pickerd, Flemish, Tuscan and Provencal.

From London and Riga, Cologne and Bordeaux, Venice and Lisbon, merchants came to buy and

sell and trade.

But not today.

Today, June 21st, 1467, the natives of brooch and visitors from all over Flanders, Northern

France, Holland, Zealand and far beyond all lined the streets.

Quiet and respectful, dressed all in black, 20,000 people made surprisingly little noise

as they waited.

He waited for the remains of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, Brabant, Limburg and Luxembourg,

and Count of Flanders, Artois, Frashkont, Namur, Heino and Holland, the holder of all those

titles and more besides, for his remains to make their way through the jam-packed streets
