Well, on the whole, we've become more averse to trying to fix the things we own when they break.

It could be of course that technology has moved on to the point that's beyond the ability of anyone who isn't an expert to fix it, but increasingly people are arguing that much of the blame lies with manufacturers intentionally making their products impossible to repair, whether that's because spares are just not available, or the thing is sealed shut and almost impossible to access.
