A popular definition of courage is the ability to move forward despite being afraid.

But the Bible goes further.

It demands fearlessness, the complete absence of fear.

Jesus never said, I know you're scared, but keep going anyway. He said on many occasions,

fear not, or be not afraid. He demanded absolute fearlessness. Fearlessness requires a firm

conviction that God, good, is the only power, and therefore man made in his image is in reality subject only to good.

As God's creation, we are his spiritual ideas.

So whatever challenge we may be facing is not actually a physical or a material condition, but the false belief that such

a condition is real.

Because fear is so often the fuel which gives seeming reality to such false beliefs, we

frequently find in the practice of Christian science that when fear is destroyed, disease

is too.

Years ago, I had a recurring internal condition.

The attacks were quite painful, and while they lasted, I was essentially incapacitated.

I prayed diligently, but the problem persisted for weeks,

until my life revolved around the attacks and the fear of them.

Finally, during one of these attacks, I rebelled.

I decided I'd rather live fearlessly in pain than painlessly in constant fear.
