This is a humanitarian crisis, a crisis of the heart,

and a crisis of the soul.

And that's President Trump from his speech this week on Border Security.

The federal government has been shut down for more than two weeks now.

Because President Trump's been fighting with Democratic lawmakers over funding a border wall

between Mexico and the U.S., Trump said he won't sign any budget from Congress that doesn't include

all of the money he wants for that wall. That's $5.7 billion.

And so hundreds of thousands of federal employees, people like

National Park Rangers and Secret Service agents and the people who process your

tax returns, they are working right now for no money, you know, while their bills pile up.

And there's no end in sight.

This fight over the border wall is just one part of the Trump administration's hardline stance on immigration.

The rescinding of DACA, trying to make it harder for people to apply for asylum,

trying to modify rules that would make it harder for people to get green cards.

Right. So the Trump White House also tried to end the temporary protected status program or TPS.

So TPS was designed to help people from countries affected by environmental disasters or armed

conflicts. Around 200,000 people from El Salvador alone have been living in the U.S.

under TPS since earthquakes ravaged that country back in 2001.

And last year around this time, the Trump administration told them that they all had to leave.

On this week's episode, we're focusing on what happened to one of those people.
