Tonight I'll be reading The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. The Adventure

of the Empty House, Part 2. In the previous part, Dr. Watson narrates the mysterious murder of the Honorable Ronald Adair.

He finds the crime baffling and regrets the absence of his friend Sherlock Holmes, who is presumed dead.

While investigating the scene, Watson encounters an elderly bookseller, who later appears at his

home. The old man astonishingly reveals himself to be Sherlock Holmes in disguise. Holmes then explains

how he faked his death in order to escape Professor Marathi and has now returned to London to solve the Adair case,

which presents a unique opportunity to deal with his last remaining foe.

Though some of the language in this story has been changed to make it more suitable for sleep,

it still contains themes of violence

and murder, so listener discretion is advised. Now that we're caught up with the story so far,

Such was the remarkable narrative to which I listened on that April evening.

A narrative which would have been utterly incredible to me, had it not been confirmed by

the actual sight of the tall, spare figure and his keen, eager face, which I had never thought

to see again. In some manner, he had learned of my own sad bereavement, and his sympathy was shown in his manner,
