So as we release this podcast, it is Good Friday and this Sunday is Easter Sunday,

which is the celebration of Jesus' resurrection. It's a holiday. It is a holy day,

to find the original meaning of that word. And it is meaningful to billions of people around the

world, but is believing in Jesus' resurrection just a matter of faith or can we point to evidence

that it really did happen. And that's what we'll be talking about today on Jimmy Akin's Mysterious World.

So Jimmy, before we begin, let's start with something that's related, but it seems to be

right. It's related. You're a professional apologist. What does that mean?

So an apologist is a person who defends a position in Greek,

apologia means a defense. If you break it down into its roots, it's like a speech from a position.

And it came to mean a defense. So apologetics is the study of how to defend something.

And I'm a Christian apologist, so I defend the Christian faith. I'm also a Catholic apologist,

so I defend the Catholic faith in particular. In English, the word apology came to have a meaning

of like saying you're sorry or expressing regret, but that's not what it means in this context.

Originally, it just meant a defense. So for example, Plato's dialogue known as the Apology

is Socrates' defense of himself before a court in Athens. And from Greek, it passed on into
