What really happens when you die.

On the 7th of October 2014, the results of the largest clinical study of human consciousness at the point of death were published in the journal Resuscitation.

The study was called Aware, Awareness During Resuscitation.

It was conducted across 15 hospitals in the United

States, the United Kingdom, and Austria. It enrolled 2,060 patients who had suffered cardiac arrest,

and it was designed to answer a single question that science had been avoiding for centuries.

Does consciousness survive the death of the body?

The study found that among cardiac arrest survivors, 46% reported a broad range of mental

experiences during the period when they were clinically dead.

When their hearts had stopped, when blood flowed to the brain had ceased, when every measurable

indicator of brain function had gone silent. These experiences included vivid perceptions of

events in the room, encounters with deceased relatives, passage through a tunnel toward a brilliant

light, and a panoramic review of their entire life

experienced from a perspective of moral evaluation.

2% exhibited full awareness, verified, timed, and corroborated awareness of events that were

occurring around their dead body.

One patient described in precise detail the actions of the medical team during the three minutes

after his heart had stopped.

His account was verified against the medical record.

It was accurate.

The lead researcher, Dr. Sam Parnia of NYU Langone Medical Center, said something that should have made headlines around the world.
