He says, preach the word because of the dangerous times, the dangerous seasons.

It is a time of all times to preach the word.

Here we are, getting further down the line, accumulating more and more danger, and at the same

time a diminishing of the proclamation of the truth to meet that danger rather than an

escalation.

John MacArthur spent more than five decades teaching the Bible verse by verse, and his sermons typically were about an hour long. Clearly, he was committed to in-depth preaching.

But the question is, should all pastors have that same commitment? It seems that more people

have shorter attention spans today than ever before. So shouldn't pastors

adapt their messages accordingly? Wouldn't congregations be better served by shorter, more topical sermons?

Consider that today on Grace to you as John MacArthur answers the question, why is preaching

worth fighting for? That's the title of his current study.

If you'll open your Bible to 1st, 2nd, Timothy, and Titus, just kind of hovering in those three

pastoral epistles, I want to sort of lead up to the main passage, but I want

to emphasize to you that these epistles written to Timothy and Titus, who are two young pastors,

give instruction for life in the church, and they point out clearly the priority of preaching and teaching.

In 1 Timothy chapter 4 and verse 6, Paul writes, in pointing out these things to the

brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the

faith and of the sound doctrine which you've been following.
