I made a declaration a few months back that when I'm traveling for conferences, I'm not going to bother with late night uploads and editing processes, but I'm excited that I can actually share what I was doing while I was out of town.

So I went to Newark for the Aspen Ideas Festival Economy Spinoff, and I had a great conversation with Rihon Salam, president of the Manhattan Institute, during a segment titled, How Did We Get Here and Where Is Here?

Rahan and I talked about culture and the

intersection of culture, economics, and politics. I decided, given the specialty that Rihon has,

both as a second generation immigrant, but also as a person who's thought a lot about the melting

pot and the debates on the right of immigration, and his specific focus on New York City and the mayoral

race, where you saw Zoron do particularly well in communities that were second, third, fourth

generation immigrants who are recently struggling with upward mobility, which is a broader theme

of the conference. So we looked at the topic of culture, economics, politics, and immigration through two

different lenses.

So firstly, like I just said, we focused on the experiences of immigrant communities that no

longer feel as if they are as upwardly mobile as they were in the past few decades,

and how that's intersecting with their political turn to the populist left, despite Trump

performing very well in those same communities' last election.

We then focused on the right with the debate over the H-1V visa and how comments by Vivek

Gramaswamy about how we raise children have really gotten to the core of the debate over H-1V

visas, high-scode immigration,

and how American children need to be prepped or not prepped for global competition and the economy.
