Summary

Listen to episode 891 of the Inspirational Living podcast: The Real You is Waiting to Come Alive. Edited and adapted from A New Philosophy of Life by John Herman Randall.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: The old materialistic idea of the universe, as a machine made up of physical matter, and run simply in accordance with certain physical laws, is gone. We live in a universe alive throughout, surcharged with vital energy, throbbing and pulsating with powers of mind from its very center to its farthest circumference; not a dead world, not a mechanical world, but an Organism which is living, breathing, and pulsating constantly, with infinite energy, infinite life, infinite power.

There was once a time when scientists talked a great deal about dead matter.

0:39.0

But today there is no such scientific thing as dead matter.

0:43.7

It is all living matter.

If you hold in your hand certain substances, carbon, sulfur and solpeter, for example,

0:53.0

there is nothing that indicates energy or force.

0:56.6

They are inert.

0:58.5

But if you bring them together, you have gunpowder.

1:03.3

From where comes the power that now exists in this explosive?

1:08.1

Did you put it in as you mix them together?

1:14.4

Not at all. Where then did it come from?

1:22.6

Ask the scientist, and they say it is due to inherent energy. What do they mean by that?

1:33.3

Perhaps they themselves do not know. The old line of demarcation between organic and inorganic, between the living world and the dead world, has vanished, and we are confronted by the stupendous thought that what we call

1:40.8

dead matter is alive throughout, and not to the thinking of the spiritualist alone,

1:48.0

but to that of the scientist as well. Scientists now say that we always find life associated with matter,

1:57.1

and there appears to be good reason for holding that every atom is alive.

2:02.5

It was Herbert Spencer who said that natural science is trending not to a world of dead matter,

2:09.4

but rather a universe that is everywhere alive.

2:13.9

There is something else to be said about this new universe in which we are moving,

2:19.3

something which is still more wonderful and startling, and that is,

2:24.3

that this universe of ours is not only a living in all its tiniest atoms,
