How and why do we fall for fake news?

Like the Russians bribing a member of Congress.

You know, a little over a month ago, I saw a tweet that really captured my attention.

Journalist Zach Beecham.

The Russian government had laundered $10 million to Jason Chaffetz, the chair of the House Oversight Committee, to leak the FBI letter about Hillary Clinton's emails that ended up playing

a huge role in the election.

This is a crazy claim.

There's no evidence for it.

There's no reason to believe it.

It just struck me because the person who tweeted it wasn't some fringe,

unaffiliated, random person's Twitter account.

It was a constitutional law expert at Harvard named Lawrence Tribe.

He is one of the most well-regarded scholars of the U.S. Constitution alive today.

But here he is. Broadcasting a clearly, clearly false claim.

Congressman Chaffaiths.'s connections. Uh, all strange.

They got nothing.

And so why was that?

How did something like that get the attention

and command the respect of someone like Larry Tribe.
