Summary

Continuing the discussion of nice guys, I wanted to think out loud a little about a question I get a lot: if women want men who are more open, more vulnerable, more reliable, more caring, why is it they still reject men who are those things? It's a complicated subject, and worth thinking about. Did you enjoy the podcast? If so, please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, or Podchaser. So I get a version of this question all the time, the question of, why is it that women won't stay with a nice guy?

0:08.9

You know, it seems to be that in our culture, in the modern conversation where a lot of women are saying that they want men to be more vulnerable, they want men to be more open. They want men to to sort of take care of

0:23.0

things and be more feminized in a lot of ways. Why is it that so many women won't stay with the

0:32.2

quote-unquote nice guys? Why is it that so many nice guys that are out there end up in divorce, end up in heartbreak,

0:39.4

have the, you know, the woman that they're with run off with some quote unquote asshole?

0:45.6

You know, what is it about the nice guy that women think they want, but ultimately end up rejecting?

0:53.4

That's what we're going to talk about today. So I remember working

0:57.1

with a man years ago as we got into this, as I got into this content and I, you know, worked with

1:03.4

Dr. Robert Glover talking about normal Mr. Nice Guy in this concept that's been around for, for decades.

1:09.7

And this guy had been in a relationship where

1:12.2

it ended after about nine months. You know, he dated this woman. He really like went to extremes to

1:19.6

make her happy, you know, flowers once a week, taking her on these nice dates, treating her better than

1:25.5

any other woman that he'd ever been with. And at this sort of like

1:29.3

eight or nine month mark, she ended up cutting off the relationship. And he could, he kind of felt

1:34.2

it, you know, he kind of knew that it was coming. And he could feel her slowly pulling away. And it was like

1:38.8

the more that he did for her, the more available that he was, the nicer that he was, the more

1:44.0

that he took care of her

1:45.1

in every single way that she had been asking for, right? Because he was sort of following through

1:49.9

with everything that she said that she wanted. He was dumbstruck. You know, he was like,

1:54.8

why did this happen? You know, how come I did everything that she asked for, which in itself should be a red flag, which maybe we'll talk about. He's like, I did everything that she asked for, which in itself should be a red flag,

2:02.3

which maybe we'll talk about. He's like, I did everything that she asked for. And, you know,

2:07.4

I wasn't the asshole guy that she dated. I wasn't a jerk. You know, I was overly reliable. I was
