The Biden administration just announced that they are raising the minimum federal wage for

federal employees. Now granted that's only about 70,000 people, but the minimum wage is now

$15 an hour for federal employees. It's a start, you know, it's like leading by example,

which is a fine thing. I wanted to tell you about the hospital crisis right now where

the keep hearing our hospitals are overloaded, our hospitals are overburdened,

in the helping professions, if doctors, nurses are right down to the janitors, they're just overwhelmed

with Omicron and COVID and all this other stuff. The New York Times had a piece yesterday,

the headline, we know the real cause of the crisis in our hospitals, it's greed.

And they started out by talking about what it's like working in these profit driven hospitals.

Now I remember a time in America and I'm guessing probably many of you do.

I don't know how many states this was the case, but it was certainly the case in Michigan right

up until the 1970s when I left Michigan that hospitals were required to be non-profits by state law.

But as the New York Times reports, chronic understaffing by profit-driven hospitals that

predates the pandemic, they quote this one nurse, quote, I could no longer work in critical care
