Summary

I’m excited to share our latest podcast episode featuring Dane Johnson, an expert in inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis. This conversation is filled with hope, practical tools, and insight for anyone dealing with chronic illness or wanting to better support their gut health. Here are a few of my biggest takeaways: 1. You can take ownership of your healing journeyDane shares his personal story of going from being housebound and severely ill to rebuilding his health and life. A major turning point for him was stepping into the mindset of becoming the “CEO of his health.”  2. Food philosophy plays a big role in gut healingWe talk about how important it is to think intentionally about food choices. Dane encourages a “food philosophy” approach—looking at the potential impact of every food and how it’s prepared. For those with IBD, this can mean starting with softer, easier-to-digest foods and being mindful with things like raw foods and alcohol, which can be harder on an already inflamed gut. 3. Managing stress is foundational for healingStress has a profound effect on gut health and overall inflammation. Dane talks about building your “shield” against stress by identifying triggers and taking real, practical steps to support your nervous system. This isn’t just about mindset—it’s about action: creating boundaries, making adjustments where needed, and intentionally adding in things that bring calm, joy, and regulation. I really loved this conversation and the hope it brings for anyone navigating chronic illness. There is so much more potential for healing when we start addressing the root pieces. Listen now and let us know your thoughts—we love hearing how these episodes resonate with you. I was diagnosed first with ulcerative colitis at a very young age and then diagnosed Crohn's disease by a different doctor. Nope, then ulcerative colitis with gastritis, then Crohn's disease,

who had different opinions on the kind of inflammatory bowel disease I was dealing with. All I knew

at 1922 years old was I was having 25 bloody bowel movements a day. Oh, wow. Yeah. I mean six or seven bowel movements to get rid of the pressure. Wow. People can't really imagine that. Imagine you go to the bathroom, you stand up and go, nope, not done. It's like almost like, you know, when you get sick and you have to throw up over again, yeah. That's happening chronically through the night and through the day for years. And then your body becomes malnourished. So I went from about 185 pounds to 122 pounds at 6.2. Yeah, that's scary. Very scary. And I started having, I mean, 10 out of 10 chronic pain, bloating urgency. I couldn't hide it. And the doctors

did everything they could and bless the doctors because they were doing things that did save my
