Welcome to the Dr. Berg's Healthy Keto and Interminute Fasting podcast, where Dr. Berg takes you on the journey for the truth about getting healthy and losing healthy weights. I'd like to share 15 incredible benefits of exercise that goes way beyond just weight loss.

0:31.4

Exercise is an epigenetic stimulus. What does that mean? It means that it actually can affect your genes in a very

0:39.3

positive way. Our bodies were definitely meant to exercise. We have over 10 million sweat glands.

0:46.3

That is our air conditioner. We have that to adapt to heat while we're exercising and be able to

0:51.4

cool down. We're able to sweat at least a liter every single hour

0:55.3

if we need to to maintain these temperatures. And exercise really activates a lot of different

1:01.0

repair systems in our body. But your results with exercise depends on your rest and recovery.

1:07.4

So if you're overtraining, you're not going to see much benefit from these things I'm

1:11.6

going to talk about. So let's dive right in. Number one, benefits to the autonomic nervous system.

1:17.2

What is that? That's the nerve system that works on automatic. And there's two parts. Well,

1:22.5

there's three parts. I'm going to talk about two. You have the sympathetic nervous system

1:26.3

and the parasympathetic nervous

1:28.3

system. And certain body parts are more heavy in one system than the other. Like your digestive

1:34.2

system is heavy on the parasympathetic side, which is rest and digest. Whereas the inside of the

1:41.7

adrenal, the adrenal medulla gland, is a 100% sympathetic.

1:46.6

But the heart is a nice 50-50 split of both sympathetic and parasympathetic.

1:53.4

And so there's a test that I used to do in my clinic called the heart rate variability test,

1:57.9

which measures the balance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic.

2:01.5

And the reason I'm talking about that is that relates to the next few benefits.

2:06.2

Number two, it decreases the risk of heart attacks.

2:08.8

And this relates to the test I just talked about.

2:11.3

See, normally, the heartbeat has this rhythm, lubed up, lubed up, loved up, loved up.
