But let's move along here.

We have quite a bit of material to cover.

So what I want to do first is review where we left off in episode 4.

The Lutz family, headed by 28-year-old George and 30-year-old Kathy, has just moved into 112

Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York in mid-December 1975.

They purchased the 6th bedroom three and a half bath

Dutch colonial home for a below market value of $80,000 with the notion

that all the space would allow George to move his business and

his boat onto the property to reduce expenditures.

And it was a rush job.

They looked at the place one day in November and said yes to the realtor right then and

there, and broke their backs to get into the home before Christmas 1975.

Now, that might raise some suspicion as to whether or not their intentions were genuine,

and that they were really just looking for a great home.

But apparently it's documented that they checked out at least 50 homes from the previous summer until they decided on 112 Ocean.
