Over all the years that I've been on the trail of Otto Vesta, I've come to like his son, Horst.

Yet there is, in our relationship, a certain complexity and a difficulty.

It's immensely frustrating to talk to someone who is intelligent, curious and incredibly generous,

and also open to knowing all about his parents past, yet at the same time

cannot accept what seems to me to be so clearly true. Somehow this internal denial overrides what he's smart enough

to see and yet I feel that there's some unconscious part of Horst that does want to get to the real truth.

And that's perhaps why he maintains his relationship with me.

Even though he knows in his heart of hearts that he's never going to get me on side in his efforts to clear his father's name,

maybe, just maybe in some way I'm helpful to them in delivering something like the truth.
