Hello pod, I'm Chris Hewitt and welcome to another episode of the ranking, the magazine

slash podcast crossover in which four Empire writers get together to argue the toss about

a director, an actor, or a series of films, and then come up with the empirical top 10.

This one is dedicated to one of the most famous and greatest directors of all time,

Alfred Hitchcock. That was an Alfred Hitchcock impression. I shouldn't have attempted it.

That's move on. Two things to note about this episode. One, it's on time,

Ish, which is rare. I know there are more ranking episodes to come, and those right soon,

including our mega Marvel Cinematic Universe, two-parter. Second thing to note, I don't host this one.

I was away when we recorded it. In fact, I'm away or right now. I'm recording this in a hotel room

in Dublin, but back then I was being chased around a cornfield by a biplane. So in friar stepped

capably into the breach and commanded an astemed panel of Hitchcock experts, Nick DeSemlian,

Beth Webb, and Neil Allcock. So this is essentially an intro to Ian's intro, or an intro, if you will,

just so you know what's happening. You could probably point out the bits where I would have made

a knobgeig in favor of actually saying something worthwhile. So feel free to shout it along at home.

Right, I think that's pretty much it. Wouldn't want to keep these suspense building. That's Hitchcock's

job. And if you're wondering about my own personal Hitchcock ranking, then I'd have to say my

favourite is North Bend, Northwest, closely followed by Vlad Bloc from Brook the 999.
