Rudy Bledell was born on December 8, 1932, into a railroad family living in Chicago, Illinois.

Falling in love with the job early on in life, Rudy watched his father work as a fireman for the railroad

and planned for most of his life to follow in his footsteps.

Joining the Air Force in 1950, just after graduating high school, Rudy was transferred to Korea,

where he was able to work on the railroad during his active duty.

Shortly after his return, Rudy got into a motorcycle accident that left him with injuries

that forever affected his posture.

But despite all of this, he went to work at Rock Island, the same railroad company that his father worked for,

and rose steadily through the company ranks.

Working in the field he always dreamed of, things took a devastating turn when he was laid off from the job.

Deciding to move to Elkhart, Indiana, and get a job there, Rudy was furious when a
