by Kate Douglas Wigan, originally published in 1901.

If you haven't listened to the first half, you will find it aired just last week.

Wigan was an American educator, author, and composer.

She wrote children's stories most notably the classic children's novel,

Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, and composed collections of children's songs.

Relax your body into the softness of your bed.

Now, take a few deep breaths.

Old Miss Roxanna Lyman lived half a mile up the river road,

and an eighth of a mile up a lane that led from it and stopped at her door yard.

The door was open, and sitting in a rocking chair in the tiny entry was,

as Rebecca reported to Miss Jane later, the very most sorrowful-est old lady anyone had ever seen.

Rebecca had heard of her, and instantly asked,

Are you Miss Roxie Lyman?

Yes, I'm Roxie Lyman.

Said the old lady in a voice that trembled with surprise,

and suggested the rarity of colors.
