But first... Germany's Chancellor Olaf Schultz sat down last night with his Polish counterpart Andrei Duda, and flying in at the last was France's president

Emmanuel Macron. Mr. Macron had just come from Moscow, where he claimed to have secured

a pledge from Russian President Vladimir Putin not to escalate tensions on Ukraine's border.

We have, as I said, very precisely, yesterday exchanged with the president, and he said that he not

at the origin of an escalade.

But the Kremlin quickly denied

that a deal had been struck,

so the parade of international diplomacy continues.

In last night's crisis meeting,

Mr. Schultz spoke up,

adding to calls for de-escalation.
