In the run-up to the Jubilee, I sat down to record a special Times Plus event with the

authorities on all things Royal from the times and the Sunday times, Valentine Lowe and

what drew them to the role of Royal Correspondent?

I had to really be persuaded when I was on another publication, I was an arts correspondent

and my predecessor who covered the role brief was about to leave and go into a different

field entirely. And he said, you know, I think you should throw a hat into the ring for

the job. It's quite a nice proof, this is 2010. Quite a gentle brief, I think really

much has happened for a while. You get to go on some nice overseas tours and I really

have to say I was very skeptical and so I said, I don't really have any interest in

the roles at all, I don't really think so. And I think my editor at the time thought
