Hello everybody and welcome back to another episode of fluently forward. We are going to be the forward thinkers today because we have on a fantastic guest. You might know him as Steve Psychology over on Tik-talk. Dr Steve Rathjay, welcome to the podcast. How you doing?

Thank you for having me. I'm doing great. How are you?

I'm doing good and I'm excited because normally, you know, we talk about the junk food topics we do

celebrity gossip and I love all of that but I think a big part of digesting pop

culture at least the way we do it is kind of peering into the psychology and the sociology of how things

were and how people are talking.

So you are an expert in psychology.

Tell us a little bit about your background and how you kind of started weaving

your academic background in the Tik-talk because I think it's so cool.

Yeah, sure, of course. So a little bit about me, I'm currently a postdoctoral researcher in psychology here at New York

University, so I'm in New York City right now, and I got my PhD in psychology two years ago at

the University of Cambridge, and then before that I got my

undergrad degree in psychology at Stanford University so I have been studying

psychology if you combine all those years for maybe about 10 years total.

I'm currently like on the professor job market so my goal is to become a professor of

psychology and a research professor of psychology.

So my big day job is doing psychology research, but sort of like my side hobby side hustle is like being a science tic-talker and like in general a science communicator and I started that a while ago you know back in

undergrad I was writing op-eds for psychology today and I started writing off heads for like

the Guardian and the Washington Post and I still do that to this day so I love like writing about

psychology for the general public and I also come from like an acting and

theater background as well so I basically during the pandemic like 20-20

decided to sort of combine those interests
