Who was the most hated villain of all time? Is it Darth Vader? Is it Draco Malfoy? Is it

0:08.4

Con from Star Trek 2? Voldemort? Sauron? Is it Newman? Is it Biff from back to the future?

0:18.8

Is it Skeletor? Or is it Agent Smith? Well, up until a couple of years ago, most people would say

0:25.7

that the most hated villain of all time was none of these people. It was Geoffrey Baratheon,

0:32.3

everyone hated Geoffrey Baratheon. But George Martin has created a villain, another villain,

0:39.8

even more hated than Geoffrey. And that villain's name is Ramsey. After making my episode on

0:48.9

the psychology of Geoffrey Baratheon one or two years ago, I got many, many emails asking for

0:56.0

another episode on the psychology of Ramsey Snow or Ramsey Bolton. For months, I would get these

1:03.8

emails and I didn't want to make an episode about Ramsey because I thought he was just too evil and

1:10.4

too one-dimensional to make an interesting episode out of it. It's just like, well, what can you say

1:16.3

about his personality and his psychology? He's just like, he's messed up. But more and more people

1:21.2

asked so and the season 6 is about to come out. So I thought, well, okay, I'll start looking into it.

1:28.4

And when I looked into it, I found that he's actually quite a complex character. He sees,

1:35.2

yeah, definitely evil. But there are some things that you can definitely point to in his development

1:43.2

that might help us understand why Ramsey is the way that he is.

1:48.8

This is the psychology and Seattle podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Kirk Honda. I am chair of the

1:55.6

couple and family therapy program at Antiac University, Seattle. And I'm also a licensed

2:01.5

therapist. Today it's just me and I thought I would analyze Ramsey, Ramsey Bolton, Ramsey

2:08.1

Stone. I thought I would give the history and at the end, I'll provide my diagnosis and

2:15.1

some quotes from the books and the TV show. All right. Well, first off, I just want to provide

2:23.5

a little bit of an intro. About 10 years ago, I received the audio book from a friend of mine.

2:31.5

He gave it to me and he said that this new book called Game of Thrones is amazing.
