So in 2017, there was a rally in Charlottesville, Virginia of neo-Nazis and other groups that are close to neo-Nazis, you know,

neo-Confederates, neo-Fascist, white nationalists,

clans, you know, K KK members,

far-right militias, these folks all gathered together

various different people, Charlottesville, Virginia, and we could

situate it in time and space in that there, like I was talking about in Chapter 1, and you know, there's a lot of forces at play of course but I think one factor that we can note is that Barack Obama was elected president twice which would be very threatening to these people for various reasons and even people

that don't consider themselves to be neo-Nazis were potentially threatened by this because

of their ideology of racism.

And then Donald Trump gets elected and you know it could be argued that he got elected at least in part because

he was overt about his racism.

Borders specifically are a very big part of modern nationalists and you know traditionally

nationalist movements you know the borders are very important ironically you know borders were not respected and invasions did happen, but in World War II and whatnot.

But the point is that your national pride, your national identity without borders and without

control of who lives there is a big deal.
