Expressive individualism is a term used today to describe the intuitive way that we think about ourselves as human beings.

We think about ourselves as free, autonomous, self-determining, and we place a great emphasis upon our feelings as being decisive for who we are.

Now, from a Christian perspective, feelings are part of what it is to be human, but also we understand as Christians that made in the image of God, we are dependent creatures.

We're obliged creatures. We don't self-invent or self-create ourselves.

And what I want to do in this talk is analyze the problem and then suggest ways that the church can

combat this within our congregations.

as a resident, that he got all the experiences as many as he could before beginning to practice

medicine on you and the other patients. What about a pastor? Is it equally, perhaps even more

important that he be properly trained to be vetted that lots of

people lay eyes on how he conducts himself in a congregation that he actually be looked at by

people who are qualified and then certified by a church to preach to teach teach, and to administer the sacraments.

You might think of your cardiologist, it's a matter of life and death.

Well, it is with your pastor as well.

A bad pastor, a poor pastor, can lead people to hell.
