St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle.

Be our protection against the wickedness and the snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray.

And do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell, Satan,

and all evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. In the name of the

Father of the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Greetings, parish orphans and retrogrades. I just said

the prayer to St. Michael, which was written by Pope Leo

the 13th in 1886, there's some dispute as to whether or not it was 1886 or 1888. No worries.

But he wrote it because of a vision that he had that the church would fall into

a kind of orientative disarray, doctrinal disarray in the 20th century. And of course, this

is precisely what happened, following upon the Vatican Council. Now, recently, Bishop Robert Barron went on Tucker Carlson's show,

and Tucker asked him at one point, Tucker, who I correspond with by text. I've been texting him

all morning about that interview back and forth. He asked Bishop Barron to recite the St. Michael

prayer. Bishop Barron said he wasn't sure he could do it well.

That's not the problem with the Bishop Baron Tucker Carlson interview. Tucker asked,

as always friendly yet very probative questions. I've been telling Tucker, good job.

And Bishop Barron did what he does best. He lied, elude, and obfuscate,

while sounding very orthodox to incautious listeners. So the problem with his not knowing,

I guess, by heart, the St. Michael prayer is not its fact, but what it stands for.

I'm going to get to what it stands for in a second. I'll say this at the outset. As regular viewers of this show will attest and recognize, I make a customary mistake with my own expressions, totally different from Bishop Barron.

I typically assume, now make a lot of mistakes, I know that, but the one I want to talk about now is I typically assume the average IQ is about 110 instead of 100.
