This month, the UK has been experiencing life outside of the European single market for the first time.

Some traders say the result is chaos.

Cost involves crazy.

Three and a half thousand pound extra.

Just on paperwork and everything we need to cross the water. It's not

viable. Fishermen, meat traders, even musicians are on the warpath this month, saying Brexit

could price them out of business. We hope that the customs checks, both sides become easier and

faster as people become more used to filling in the right forms. But ultimately, if you raise barriers to trade, you create friction and delay.

That is absolutely inevitable. I'm very sorry to say.

Wine importer Daniel Lambert is not a happy man.

Trudging through mud, actually. I think that's the best way of putting it.

We aren't able to do what we want to do, how we've been doing it for 28 years.

And at the moment, the system has flaws in it.

The problem for Daniel's small business delivering wines to UK retailers

is that the computerised tax system

in Britain, known as Chief, it's meant to cover the paperwork for imported European

shipments, it keeps failing. Britain's departure from the EU at the start of this year has

meant a slew of forms need filling in, but even with all the right inputs, Daniel says, the computer

is not processing his paperwork. Almost no deliveries of wine have reached the warehouse
