For several years in a row now, our newsbeats have been filled with images of wildfires,

and that's led to warnings against small human actions that can lead to destruction.

For instance, in drought-affected areas, residents were warned not to drive on flat tires.

If you have a flat tire and try to make it to the next gas station, the sparks can start a fire. Residents are discouraged from driving in tall grass. The exhaust pipe can catch dry grass on fire. Fires have even been started by smoke bombs at gender reveal parties. A huge fire can start with a small spark.

The Apostle James says that is a picture of our words, and Nancy's about to explain.

This is a classic message from Nancy, and she started by telling us about another wildfire

that had been in the news in the Black Hills National Forest

of South Dakota.

It took more than a thousand firefighters over two weeks to battle this fire.

The fire started on August the 24th, 2000, and it was not contained until September 8th.

In the meantime, over 80,000 acres of valuable timber were destroyed, and the damage was

estimated to be in excess of $40 million. How did that fire start? Well, a 46-year-old woman

named Janice Stevenson admitted that she stopped by a road in that forest on August

the 24th, lit a cigarette, and then tossed the still burning match on the ground. Rather than putting

out the fire, she saw that the brush was actually on fire, but she got back into her car and
