Did you bring your Bible this morning?

Turn to James 3 in Proverbs 18.

James 3, verse 2, says in many things we offend all, if any man offend not in word,

the same as a perfect man and able also to bridle the whole body.

The NIV says, if anyone is never at fault in what he says,

he's a perfect man able to keep his whole body in check.

He goes on talking about how we control horses with the bit.

They control ships, even though they're out on the big waves of the ocean and driven

with fierce winds with a relatively small rudder.

And he says what the bit is to the horse, what the rudder is to the ship, your tongue,

your mouth is to your life. I think if it had been writing it today, he might have included

the steering wheel, you know, because that's what controls the direction of the car or the

truck. So is it true that our words are steering our life?

It's obvious most Christians, most people in general, don't believe this.

Why would you say that, brother?

Because of the way they talk.

It's obvious.

If you believed what you're saying is either helping you or hurting you, it's ministering life to you or death to you, it's making you sick or it's healing you, it's bringing money to you or it's keeping it away from you.

If you really believed that, you would watch what you said, wouldn't you?

And if you don't, if you just say whatever you feel like, whatever everybody else is saying,

it proves you don't believe it.

But it's working.
