You were put on this planet for success.

0:10.0

You were created to succeed, but the force of average is after you every single day, my brothers and sisters.

And this podcast is the one thing that's designed to help you fight the force of average and excel in every area of your life.

We're glad that you're here.

One of the things I've been able to create that's helped me through some really hard times in my life is what I call a mental safe space.

0:32.8

So let me give you an example.

0:34.9

I've learned how to play some brain games on myself. And these may work for you. They may not work for you, but I'm going to give you the game here anyway to try it. For example, if I'm in the gym and I have to do 10 reps, you know, five, let's say they're box steps. Okay, five on the left, five on the right. The mental game, the mentally safe space that I'll go to, especially if I'm sweating, it's hard. I've done a whole bunch of them, right? I'm going to go to this safe space in my mind. I'm going to remove my mind from the physical pain that I'm going through and put my mind on autopilot while my body is doing what it's doing. There's a couple of things I do for this, right?

1:12.2

First of all, I count down.

1:14.1

I never count up on reps.

1:19.0

When I'm in the gym, even when I'm swinging a hammer on the ranch or putting fence post in the ground or working, swinging an axe, whatever, I always count down.

1:24.1

So if I know I'm in the gym and I got to do 20 reps, if I'm count one, two, three, four, I'm a long ways from 20. But if I count down, this is how I get into my mental safe space, right? This is the mind tricks. I play myself 20, 19, 18, 17, 16. I know exactly how many I have left to go. Every time that number's getting closer to zero. That means I have zero left. If I have

1:46.1

five and five and it equals 10, so if I got to do five step-ups, then I'm going to do one, one, two, two, three, three, four, four, five, because five seems less than 10. And so it's true. It's five on each side, but I'm not going to count 10 reps.

1:58.6

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 5, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1.

2:03.4

In my mind, it shortened each side, but I'm not going to count 10 reps, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 5, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1.

2:03.4

In my mind, it shortens the time.

2:05.8

Even though nothing's changed, it's just a mental trick that I play on myself.

2:11.3

When I've been through really tough times in my life where, you know, I was in a prison,

2:16.6

I went to this mental safe space, this place where, okay, here's the role I've got to play. Here's what I'm going to read these books. I'm not going to pretend I'm in prison. I'm going to get tied in with these books and pretend I'm on Wall Street, learning how this shit works. I'm going to be able to leave my body here and take my mind somewhere else.

2:35.0

And I've been able to do that through, you know, when I broke my neck.

2:39.0

I broke my neck and my arm.
