University. Thank you very much. The Wrigley Center for Environmental Studies and the Center for the Political

Future. This conference on climate change is important, and I'm glad that I have a couple of

comments, not only to thank you for attending, but to welcome you. Right now, you see the

administration and others in Congress attempt to walk this tightrope. The reality of climate change and the climate crisis increases,

and so the focus needs to be on transition,

the focus needs to be on sustainability,

and the focus needs to be in equity.

But we see that we're confronting some pushback,

and that pushback is intense.

It is about denial to some extent, but not to the degree that it was.

It is about avoidance, not dealing with the issue at all, and somehow it will magically go away.

And the other one is delay.

And what you see, it's prominence in public policy, to delay decisions.

And the latest being this type rule, that we need energy independence, that we need energy

security, and that we must do all we can to deregulate and drill and extract from wherever
