Psalm 135. I'll read verses 1 through 7.

Praise the Lord. Praise the name of the Lord. Give praise, O Servants of the Lord, you that stand in the

house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God.

Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good. Sing to his name, for he is gracious,

for the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself,

Israel as his own possession.

For I know that the Lord is great and that our Lord is above all gods.

Whatever the Lord pleases he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps.

He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightnings for the the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses.

There are two assumptions that lie as foundations beneath the present new series on the pleasures of

God.

Assumption number one is that the worth and excellency of a soul is measured by the object of its

love.

You apply that to God and you can say

that the worth and excellency of God's soul or his character is measured by the objects of his delight or his love.

The measure of God's dignity is what he delights in.

His pleasures are the pointers toward the preciousness of his character. The greatness of his excellence is shown in what he enjoys.

That's assumption number one. If you want to see the worth and

excellency of God, set your mind's eye upon those things in which he delights.

Assumption number two is that if we succeed in seeing the worth and the excellency of God in his pleasures, we will be changed from one degree

of glory to another into his likeness.
