Summary

If you've been following the cryptocurrency and NFT conversation with us recently, you’ll appreciate this incredible conversation with Robert Breedlove, a freedom maximalist and bitcoin-focused entrepreneur. If you haven’t been following along, jump in now. This episode is less NFT and crypto wallet focused and more educational in that Robert breaks down inflation like very few can. Understanding something at its foundational level allows you to really think from first principles, which empowers you to make better decisions. Cryptocurrency is built on technology and Bitcoin has been performing like no other asset in history, but why and how is this possible? You may need to listen to this a few times, and may be even better with pen and paper to take notes. This is a crash course and deep dive on money, inflation, what property is, and why assets matter. Robert shares 5 properties of money: 1. Divisibility 2. Durability 3. Recognizability 4. Portability 5. Scarcity [Original air date: 10-12-21]. I am very excited to have you. And I have recently gone way down the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency rabbit hole.

0:17.2

You come up early and often when somebody does that exploration.

0:22.7

And I feel like I have a, I felt like I had a very intuitive understanding of what money is.

0:29.2

You know, it's been a huge part of my life pursuing the accumulation of wealth.

0:33.9

And then you hear the phrase from you, which stopped me in my tracks, which is inflation is theft.

0:40.2

And it didn't make sense.

0:41.7

Like it wasn't that I disagreed.

0:43.4

It was that I couldn't make the sentence make sense.

0:46.6

And I realized that I always thought of inflation.

0:49.8

And we're going to get to answering the question around what is money, why Bitcoin is useful, all of that.

0:54.8

But to me, to attack that head on doesn't work as well as talking about why inflation is theft.

1:01.8

Because I had mistaken it for a fundamental property of nature.

1:05.7

I just never thought beyond that inflation exists.

1:09.0

And it's roughly 2% a year.

1:10.5

And that is what it is.

1:11.3

Yeah. And then I encountered Michael Saylor and him talking about hyper inflation. I was like,

1:15.9

wait a second. What? Because I literally told my money manager, I want to be as close to my money

1:20.1

buried in the backyard as humanly possible during COVID, right? Because I didn't, I didn't know where

1:24.9

that was going to leave us. Why is inflation theft?

1:29.1

And maybe what is inflation? Yeah, I don't think you should feel bad not understanding it at the

1:36.7

outset. I actually have argued in some of my writing that it's a euphemism. You know, the idea of
