We're in a series entitled Discovering the Divine and we're looking at encounters that Jesus had with real everyday people.

Now somehow we get the idea that these weren't real people because they lived 2,000 years ago.

These are real people who had real problems.

They met Jesus God, God, the son of God, Jesus, they met him personally and he spoke with him and had

an encounter which means that we can learn from studying these encounters how God treats people and how God helps people.

So that's what we're doing.

And this is my favorite one.

This is the one that when I got the idea, I said that's the first one I'm going to

preach because it's my favorite story in the whole Bible and the Lord

hadn't let me preach it yet until this week. This is the story of the

Pharisee and the prostitute. the Pharisee and the prostitute.

The Pharisee and the prostitute, Luke 7, verse 36.

Then one of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him.

And he went to the Pharisees house and sat down to eat. And behold a woman in the city

who was a sinner when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisees house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood

at his feet behind him.

Very important to notice she stood behind him, not like the pictures you see of this, a lot of people drawn pictures of this or painted pictures, they showed her in front of him.

She didn't do it in front of him, she did it behind him.

Weeping, and she began to wash his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head.

And she kissed his feet and anointed them with fragrant oil.

Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this he spoke to himself saying

this man, if he were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching
