Kora! Welcome back to the soundtrack show. I'm your host, David W. Collins, and this episode kicks off our close look at the music for Star Wars Episode

1, The Phantom Menace, a film from 1999 directed by George Lucas with a film score by John

Williams, by focusing solely on dissecting and analyzing duel of the fates. In our last episode,

we got into the historical background leading up to William's bold

decision to use choral with orchestra.

We also discussed John Williams' career in the 1990s, paying special attention to his work

in the concert hall, as well as some of his more choral film and concert works.

I want to get straight into our discussion on Duel of the Fates and its musical importance

in Star Wars.

Obviously, the choir feels epic, and the effect it has on the final lightsaber battle at the end of the film is one of excitement and extreme significance,

as the outcome of the battle will alter the course of Star Wars history forever.
