The Folsom Swamp in southern New Jersey is a densely wooded, boggy quagmire today.

Back when it happened, searchers had to cut and hack and pick their way through thickly knotted underbrush that snagged and tore at their clothing and tripped them at every step.

This was wild, unmapped country that according to the New Jersey State Police,

no one but the Indians had ever penetrated. What they were searching for was something they

prayed they wouldn't find. In the end, it was a local hunter and his dog who made the discovery.

When something or someone is lost, there's more than one kind of finding.

Joy and the rush of relief, that's what we hope for.

The finding can also mean the end of hope and the bottomless howl of grief.

And who knows, maybe she found that loving home with an extremely wealthy family.
