accused of using the L word beforehand, but it was the truth. We were heading to this,

we were hurtling to this result, and we finally got there. I'm obviously thrilled for the future of the country.

I do think that yesterday represented, as I've said all along, not the finish line, but the start line.

There's a lot ahead.

It's worth thinking a little bit, though, about what people exactly were voting for with Donald Trump yesterday.

And I've given this a lot of thought as somebody who ran in a Republican

primary against Donald Trump. A lot of discussions on the right about what Donald Trump's

policy positions represent relative to the historical Republican Party platform. And here's, I think,

the essence of the matter, which I think is interesting, regardless of whether you're a Democrat or

Republican, is just interesting as a matter of understanding the people of this country, understanding

where we are in our moment of history, what the people want in a leader, and I think what

the people need in a leader right now more than ever.

He's not an ideologue.

He's not somebody who is a policy wonk.

He's not somebody who goes down the hard line, hardest conservative

position you can take on any given social question. That's just not Donald Trump. There were

people on the primary who I competed against who tried to compete for that lane. That didn't work in

2016, just as it didn't work in 2024 against Donald Trump. The thing that Donald Trump

uniquely brings to the table this time around bluntly

is that he's an American badass. Let's be really honest. That's what people want their commander
