A note came in a moment ago from Daniel in Philadelphia, listening on our 640 AM station, and it pertains to a topic that came up at the very end of the last segment, so I'm going to bump him to the top of the list. He says, Patrick, let's say someone lives a very holy life and is eventually canonized as a saint.

Let's also say that that person had been cremated and his remains were properly interred.

After his canonization or beatification even, would his dust then, I think you mean ashes, then become relics? The answer is yes, because that

would be all that would be left of him. And for most of the saints, by the way, all that's left of them

would be a skeleton for the most part, or even maybe just a few bones. So back to his letter.

He says, would it then be okay to scatter his ashes in reliquaries throughout the world, as is done with bones of saints that were not cremated?

The answer is yes. I mean, it's just another form of the remains of the body, in this case ashes instead of actual bones.

So I wouldn't see any difference in kind. So if, as churches do,

they had a relic of a saint, a little piece of a bone, for example. And remember what the Bible says.
