I think I want to lead off with this one. This is from

Mary, and she's listening. It actually doesn't say where she's listening. So Mary, forgive me,

I don't know what market of ours you're listening. But in any case, here's what Mary wrote to me.

It's about the TV show The Chosen. She says, in this show, Jesus meets Nicodemus in secret.

Jesus tells Nicodemus that he has to be born again and join his apostles. My question is,

does the New Testament have the phrase born again, or is born again the creation of Protestant

theology? Well, not exactly. The term in Greek is anothen, and Jesus says this word

twice. Now, he's almost certainly, he didn't say these words to Nicodemus in Greek. He almost

certainly said them in Aramaic, possibly Hebrew, but I'm pretty confident it was Aramaic,

which was the lingua franca,

among the Jews in that place at that time. But it seems pretty clear that most of these Jews

also knew at least a rudimentary form of Greek. Jesus probably spoke Greek as freely as anyone

else could have in that area, because Greek was the language of commerce
