I have to kind of tie things up. I was talking about conscience with you a minute ago, and just a few

more things that bear repeating. I'm just simply saying what the church says,

but maybe through the filter of personal experience. I mean, if you've ever had a guilty

conscience, if you have a guilty conscience now, you should thank God because that means that

your conscience, that operation of your soul that tells you if something's right or wrong,

if it's functioning

properly, I mean, some people can take a hammer to their conscience and destroy it to the

point where they don't even hear it anymore. But that's the eight-lane super highway to hell

if you do that. So if your conscience is functioning properly and you feel guilty about something, then you should

thank God because that's his way in your soul of telling you to get right with him and go to

confession, seek his forgiveness, be repentant, etc. But the last part of all this is very important,

and that is how do you know the difference between what you want to do

and what you ought to do? How do you know? Well, there are three factors, and you can take

this into any situation that involves what the moral theologians would call a human act.

A human act is not like

sneezing or burping or laughing at something funny. A human act is something, some action, it could

also involve your thoughts as well, but some action or some thought process that has a moral quality

to it. It's either immoral or it's moral or it may be morally neutral. It could be
