World News Group founder Joel Belts died this past weekend after a long battle with Parkinson's.

In the early 80s, Belts launched a newspaper that targeted middle schoolers to help them see the world

from a Christian perspective.

Eventually, publications were added for other age groups as well, and after a growing interest

in a similar publication for adults, Belts launched World Magazine in 1986.

It quickly became an evangelical staple as a media outlet and as a training ground for Christian

journalist.

She K Chesterton once said, quote,

this is the age in which thin and theoretic minorities

can cover and conquer unconscious and untheoretic majorities.

Put differently, an ill-informed mind leads to a weak faith, and it was against

this threat that Joel Belt's battled his whole life. He leaves behind decades of service to Christ

Church, a trusted institution and Christian journalism, a lengthy body

of work, and a new generation of journalists and writers who now stand on his shoulders.
