As we near the end of our week on the parables, today we're gonna look at the

parable of the prodigal son. Hanging in my office is a print of Rembrandt's

depiction of his biblical scene. It's hard for me to think of another passage of

scripture that produces such continual fruit in my life on a daily basis. May

these words of Jesus redefine our relationship with God for the better today.

Our scripture for today comes from Luke 15 verse 24 where Jesus says,

for this my son was dead and is a life again. He was lost and is found.

There is in a single passage of scripture that better illustrates the heart of

our Heavenly Father than the parable of the prodigal son. So as to not miss any

of the details of this life-changing passage, open your heart to the spirit as I

read it and its entirety. And he said, there was a man who had two sons and the

younger of them said to his father, father, give me the share of the property

that is coming to me. And he divided his property between them. Not many days

later, the younger son gathered all that he had and took a journey into a

far country. And there he squandered his property in reckless living. And when

he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country and he began to

be in need. So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that

country who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. And he was longing to be fed

with the pots that the pigs ate and no one gave him anything. But when he came

to himself, he said, how many of my father's hired servants have more than enough
