So for 1962, we see the space race in full swing.

John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth in February.

President John F. Kennedy asked Congress for 531 million dollars to put a man on the moon before the end of the decade.

NASA's Ranger Force spacecraft was launched and crashed on the moon during April.

The spacecraft was launched from Cape Canaveral with the mission to study the moon, return

data back to Earth, and transmit images.
