Hey Nick, I originally wrote this encounter out to send to you for a From the Forest episode,

as those are my favorite

episodes to listen to. I'm an outdoorsman, and I will say that I am a skeptic of the paranormal,

but I'd be lying if I said that it doesn't intrigue me. This experience is one of the only

few that have really had me stumped, and it put me in a state of legitimate fear. I just listened to your

first chapter of the ones we don't speak of. This experience of mine might fit the bill for this series.

I just spent my first day of three in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. My camp is set up.

I've built my fire, and it's time to make some

chili for dinner. I decided to wait until the morning to take the trash and clean the pots and pans

because the dumpster and water spout are about a half mile away. It's very dark, and it's approaching

zero degrees Fahrenheit. A strong wind blows in, and in the distance I can hear a pack of gray wolves howling.

Sitting around the fire, I feel somewhat safe, but they are getting a little close for comfort.

These howls are definitely not from coyotes, and it just confirms what the Game Morden said earlier that day

about gray wolves being native to the

area and starting to thrive once again. I decided to turn in for the night and bundle up in my tent.

It was so cold I had to leave my coveralls on and wear my beanie in my sleeping bag. I finally doze off

listening to the symphony of the wolves howling,
